Carcasses researches how death, despite being an essential part of existence, rarely receives her own space. Hanna Burgers’ and Nienke Roth’s work shows that death in an urban context is hidden, whereas in nature, she leaves stories and significance. Death is read as part of life’s cycle instead of solely a disruption of life.

Through Carcasses, both photographers tug at their own feelings of unease and curiosity around decay. The series offers a space in which death can exist without having to hide, and reaches out to the viewer to enter a dialogue about this quiet topic.
