Ingrained is an ongoing exploration of the landscape of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. This land is carefully constructed. Dikes, ditches, and roads divide it into rigid structures, where plots follow one another in a compelling rhythm. Everything appears ordered and under control.
But that calm is misleading. Water presses against the edges, the soil slowly changes from within, and the sea is never far away. The landscape is controlled, but never fully contained.
The series explores the tension between control and letting go, and reflects on our relationship to a landscape we continue to mould — and that continues to shape us.
