This work represents a process of creation by the moon. It alone creates the tides that made the raw image. The movement of the waves is the action made by the moon-artist, the sand and the light of the sun are it's materials.
Then, Michèle Polak and Paul Allender work on the image in intuitive ways to enhance and enliven it in a process of re-presentation, she with her camera and digital means and he with his paintbrush.
The Essence is part of the series Panta Rhei. As such, it is an example of the philosophical concept of 'everything flows'.
