Almost Anywhere

Groupshow

28.11.2026 - 16.01.2027

From November 28, 2026 until January 16, 2027, Ballon Rouge presents the group show Almost Anywhere, with work by Vivian Ammerlaan, Marlike Marks and Dineke Versluis. A shared attitude rather than a shared subject. All three artists experiment with what an image can become. There is intention, but also room for discovery, accident and play.

Dineke Versluis exhibits new Post Studies, compositions in which she reshapes her photographs through precise yet playful interventions with tape and nail polish. In Hors Jeu, she turns her attention to recreational and athletic spaces photographed out of season, devoid of human activity.

Marlike Marks presents new works from While I Am Here, a series rooted in attention, repetition and a return to the familiar. Marks looks for the extraordinary within everyday surroundings, showing that remarkable images do not necessarily require distant landscapes or unfamiliar places. By returning to the same places and looking again, subtle shifts in light, colour, season and detail reveal themselves over time. For Almost Anywhere, Marks presents a new selection of works while experimenting with different Japanese papers, each bringing its own texture, surface and character to the image.

Part of Vivian Ammerlaan’s ongoing series Waanplekken (Illusory Places), these handmade Toyobo prints explore the beauty and mystery of trees. Using photography and everyday materials, she creates fictional landscapes inspired by memories and imagined encounters with overwhelming nature. In an increasingly mapped world, she is drawn to the remote, the unknown and the sublime, seeking to capture the essence of landscapes that ultimately resist representation.
