And the tides will change
Xandrine Koller, Mick Santman, Dominique de Vries
22.02 - 13.04.2025
And the tides will change presents the work of Xandrine Koller, Mick Santman, and Dominique de Vries, three artists who each explore intimate and layered experiences of identity, connection, and personal transformation. Rather than presenting singular narratives, the exhibition unfolds a spectrum of human experience: from introspection to discovery, from isolation to acceptance, and from memory to renewal.
Through photography, text, video, and performative practices, the artists examine how identity, memory, and environment shape who we are and how we relate to the world. The works move between presence and absence, inner reflection and outward exploration, revealing the ways personal and collective experiences resonate across time, space, and emotion.

Xandrine Koller navigates the asexual spectrum in her project Do You Eat When You’re Not Hungry?, drawing on self-portraits, still lifes, conversations, and texts to explore the nuances of demisexuality. By confronting feelings of loneliness, insecurity, and desire for recognition, Koller creates intimate spaces where the unseen aspects of identity can be acknowledged and understood. Her work highlights the importance of visibility and dialogue in communities often left unspoken.
Mick Santman turns to the sea in Blue Mind, reflecting on our connection to nature and the restorative power of water. Inspired by the Blue Mind Theory, he employs long exposure photography, cyanotype prints developed in seawater, and video work to create minimalist landscapes where sea and sky dissolve fixed points of reference. Santman’s practice invites viewers to pause, reflect, and experience the sea as a space of tranquillity, presence, and introspection.

Dominique de Vries explores memory, transition, and the loss of childhood in Now I Know How to Tell You. Growing up in a bicultural family in Hellevoetsluis, Dominique shouldered early responsibility as the eldest child. For three years, he wandered the landscapes of his youth, documenting rural spaces that became reflections of his inner struggles. His work is a meditation on what is lost, what can be reclaimed, and the landscapes that hold our formative experiences.
Together, the works in And the Tides Will Change reveal identity and experience as fluid, layered, and deeply personal. The exhibition invites viewers into spaces of reflection, encounter, and empathy, where landscapes—both inner and outer—become mirrors for growth, understanding, and transformation.
