Ballon Rouge is pleased to present its participation in North Sea Jazz Art, with work by Vivian Ammerlaan, Marlike Marks and Dineke Versluis. Each of the artists moves through landscape, physically or mentally, using it as a way to look, think and return to themselves.

Inspired by her trip to the Rocky Mountains in 2025, Vivian Ammerlaan developed a new series of large-format cyanotypes. Working with negatives of imagined landscapes and toning the images with tea and coffee, she creates compositions in which deep blue and earthy brown hues merge. Traces of the making process—stains, frayed edges, and unpredictable effects—are integral to the work, evoking both the vastness of the landscape and her intimate, personal presence.
Marlike Marks’ work is rooted in repetition and attentive looking. She presents new work developed over the past year, shown here for the first time. Her practice is shaped by a cyclical understanding of time, where change is continuous rather than linear. There is an underlying awareness of transience, not as loss, but as something gentle and present.
By returning to the same places again and again, her work becomes a way of being with time itself: observing how everything shifts, both outside and within. It invites viewers to slow down, to linger, and to rediscover the subtle beauty in the world around them.
Dineke Versluis examines visual associations found in archival images in her ongoing project Connecting Landscapes. By reusing and transforming existing material, she creates new connections and perspectives. In her Post Studies, she reshapes photographs through layered editing into new compositions. This body of work is presented carefully framed and on a larger scale.
