In the work of Hobie Minnebreuker, the human body functions both as a boundary and as a bridge. This tension between strength and vulnerability lies at the core of Hobie Minnebreuker’s practice. Through the tactile process of photogravure, digital photographs are transformed into handcrafted prints that carry traces of time, touch, and imperfection.
The body in the work of Hobie Minnebreuker never appears as a complete whole but as an open, fragmented narrative. The method is essential: starting from a digital photograph, the image is transferred onto a light-sensitive plate, then inked and printed by hand. Each step allows for unpredictability, echoing scars, uncertainty, and resilience.
This ongoing exploration culminated in a photobook created in collaboration with designer Suze Swarte, where image and materiality merge. The result is a body of work that evokes recognition while resisting certainty, presenting the body as a record of experience, transformation, and beauty found in imperfection.
